Ben is a DPhil candidate with the NERC Environmental Research DTP.
His research aims to build understanding of the changing risks of extreme weather to people and property, using a variety of methods. A core focus is extreme event attribution; how it can be used to attribute loss and damage to anthropogenic climate change, to highlight ingoing vulnerabilities, and to inform future risk reduction.
Ben is also interested in the degree to which attribution statements can now be made without further analysis. He works on using deep learning to improve how climate models simulate extreme events, with a focus on regions of limited observational data.
