Grade 9: £48,835 – £56,587 p.a
Closing date for applications: 12noon, 1st December 2021
Applications are invited for the post of Head, Spatial Finance Initiative, Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme (OxSFP). Spatial Finance is the integration of geospatial data and analysis into financial theory and practice. Earth observation and remote sensing combined with machine learning have the potential to transform the availability of information in our financial system. It will allow financial markets to better measure and manage climate-related risks, as well as a vast range of other factors that affect risk and return in different asset classes. By incorporating geospatial and asset-level data into financial decision making, spatial finance provides an opportunity to enhance transparency within the financial system for both practitioners and data providers. The Spatial Finance Initiative (SFI) aims to mainstream geospatial capabilities enabled by space technology and data science into financial decision-making globally.
The post holder will be a recognised and leading authority in their field, and responsible for managing grant funded research projects, including the operational management of a research group. The post holder will be a self-starter, tasked with scaling world-leading OxSFP research and associated funded projects on Spatial Finance, including the creation of open global asset-level databases for high impact industries, physical and transition climate and environmental risk analyses and biodiversity impact metrics. The post holder will also contribute to teaching and supervision on these topics.
OxSFP is a multidisciplinary research group working to be the world’s best place for research and teaching on sustainable finance and investment. The OxSFP work with leading practitioners from across the investment chain, with firms and their management, and with experts from a wide range of related subject areas.
We intend to significantly increase the reach and impact over the next five years. You will be personally responsible for rapidly developing and implementing effective partnerships, focused on but not limited to capacity building and training, and bringing in funding, and supporting the next phase of the OxSFP’s and SSEE’s development.
You will hold a relevant PhD with significant post-qualification research experience and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop novel research projects and methodologies. The post holder will have a demonstrated ability to secure significant research funding through a track record of successful grant applications. Evidence of effective teamwork in interdisciplinary research contexts and multiparty collaborations is essential. You will have the ability to lead and motivate a team of research staff.
Applications are particularly welcome and encouraged from women, black, and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in posts in SoGE. SoGE and SSEE are committed to equality and value diversity.
The appointment will be available full time for 36 months (with possible extension depending on funding approval).
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 1st December 2021, and interviews will be held in mid-December 2021.
