We’re thrilled to announce the winning teams from the CGFI Hackathon 2025, held on 10–11 June at the Leeds Innovation Hub. Two teams were presented with prizes at our awards dinner in Leeds, sponsored by Aon:

For industry-relevant solution: Tom Perkins, John Hillier, Jiaojiao Yue, Grzegorz Muszynski and Leo Saffin.

For academic/research-focused solution: Amy Solman, Stella Bourdin, Ipshita Dey and Hailun Xie.

The Hackathon, which focused on global characteristics of tropical cyclones and the implications for the reinsurance industry, demonstrated the power of bringing together academia and the financial sector.
In two intense days of collaborative problem-solving, participants tackled complex questions around tropical cyclone risks, applying fresh insights and creative thinking throughout.
Many thanks to our sponsors Aon, Oasis and Jasmin/STFC, and our partner organisations and experts who provided their time and support to judge solutions and shape and deliver the Hackathon.
Thanks also to all participants for their innovative solutions and contributions to hard-fought Hackathon! We look forward to sharing more on their solutions in due course.
What's next?
We’ll collaborate with teams to share their outputs and explore how we can develop their prototypes further. We’ll share followup activities and more from their solutions here in due course.
