The UK Centre for Greening Finance & Investment (CGFI) has appointed Matt Scott to the CGFI senior leadership team as the Centre’s first Executive Director.

Dr Ben Caldecott, the Principal Investigator and founding Director of CGFI, said: “I am delighted that Matt Scott has joined CGFI as our first Executive Director and I’m excited that we’ll be working closely together. He brings a wealth of experience from a range of senior roles – establishing the Bank of England’s Climate Hub, leading the development of the UK’s first Green Finance Strategy, and latterly as a Senior Director in WTW’s Climate and Resilience Hub. His appointment will help us accelerate our work to drive the adoption and use of climate and environmental data and analytics by financial institutions internationally.”

Matt Scott, Executive Director of CGFI, said: “Greening the financial system to drive impact in the real economy has been a core focus of my career to date. CGFI is known for its impactful research, has built a great team and network of partners, and provides an exciting platform to transform finance and investment for a greener future. I’m delighted to join CGFI and look forward to taking on this key leadership role and working closely with organisations across the CGFI consortium.”

Matt Scott will take on the day-to-day management of CGFI’s world-leading, multidisciplinary team. He will be based at the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group at the University of Oxford, which leads the CGFI consortium.

Dr Ben Caldecott will continue to act as CGFI’s Principal Investigator and provide oversight by, among other things, chairing CGFI’s Executive Committee and Consortium Strategy Group, and co-heading the Transition Plan Taskforce.
